Rodney McCray grew up in Northwest Detroit Michigan where he attended Henry Ford high school. He later move to California where he went to University High School in Los Angeles. After college at West Los Angeles College Rodney was drafted in 1984 and signed with the San Diego Padres in the 9th round.
